Enrico Salati (c1790-1869), was Prime Minister of the Duchy of Parma from 1849 to 1859 == Biography == Enrico Salati began his career as a lawyer for the Duchy of Parma.〔Lorenzo Molossi, ''Vocabolario Topografico dei Ducati di Parma'', p. 623, Dalla Tipografia Ducale, 1834〕 Under Marie Louise, Duchess of Parma he was appointed President of the Ministry of Grace and Justice.〔( Parma e la sua Storia, ''Salati, Enrico'' )〕 Enrico Salati as Counsellor of State for the Duchy of Parma, acting on behalf of Charles II, Duke of Parma, signed an alliance with Prince Klemens von Metternich, Foreign Minister of the Austrian Empire on February 4, 1848.〔( ''Treaty of Offensive and Defensive Alliance, between Austria and Parma'', British and Foreign State Papers, 1847-1848, Vol. 36, p. 1171-1172, H.M. Stationery Office, 1861 )〕 Following the abdication of Charles II in 1849 to his son Charles III, Duke of Parma; Enrico Salati became Chief Minister of Parma and Piacenza on May 17, 1849, and he served until May 3, 1859.〔( Italian states to 1861 (P-V), Parma and Piacenza, World Statesmen.org )〕 Charles III was assassinated March 26, 1854, and was succeeded by his son Robert I, Duke of Parma (age 5) the following day.
